Invitation to Pfeifer Talk: Current insights into log supply and market trends

What does the future hold for record prices on the timber market? When will supply and demand return to equilibrium? These questions will be addressed at the next Pfeifer Talk on 20 January 2026.Gerd Ebner, editor-in-chief of Holzkurier, will speak about current challenges and global trends on the timber market. Participation is free of charge after registration.

Log prices across Europe are currently reaching record levels, exacerbated by the low volume of damaged timber after a ‘wet’ summer. In Central Europe in particular, significant price increases are driving up costs for the timber industry, while shortages of spruce are bringing the increased use of pine into focus.

Prices in Scandinavia have also risen sharply after many stable years. Overall, log prices are rising faster than the prices of processed products, putting sawmills under margin pressure. The first Pfeifer Talk of the year will explain why, despite high stocks in the forest, there is no relief in sight in the short term.

We will be examining how the timber market will develop in the coming months in the first Pfeifer Talk of 2026. We welcome Gerd Ebner, editor-in-chief of Holzkurier, as our speaker. He will provide a clear analysis of the current situation, assessments of global trends, and specific classifications of opportunities and risks.

Look forward to an exciting presentation that you can follow comfortably from your PC or smartphone!

About the Pfeifer Group

Pfeifer Holding GmbH was founded in Austria in 1948 and is now a family-owned company in its third generation. The management board consists of CEO Michael Pfeifer, CTO Clemens Pfeifer and CFO Günther Binder. Headquartered in the Tyrolean town of Imst (Austria), the company employs around 2,600 people at 13 sites in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Finland, making it one of Europe’s leading timber industry enterprises. In its fully integrated sawmills, around 5.4 million solid cubic metres of timber are processed each year along the entire value chain into sustainable products such as sawn and planed timber, concrete formwork panels, formwork beams, cross-laminated timber (CLT), glue-laminated timber (glulam), glued solid wood panels, pallet blocks, briquettes, pellets and green electricity. At its Uelzen site, Pfeifer is also promoting the material recycling of wood resources through waste wood recycling.
