1948
Origins in Imst/Austria.
Company founder Barbara Pfeifer leases her first small contract sawmill in the post-war period. Together with her sons Oskar, Fritz and Bernhard, she builds up the company step by step. The family spirit still shapes Pfeifer today.
The 1970s
A sawmill becomes an industrial wood processor.
Pfeifer focuses on further processing. The company develops from a sawmill into an industrial wood processor. Products such as shuttering panels expand the value chain and open up new markets.
1974
Kundl becomes part of the Pfeifer Group.
With the takeover of the long-established timber plant in Kundl, Pfeifer strengthens its industrial base in Tyrol/Austria. The plant complements existing production and expands the company’s value creation in the region.
The 1980s
New formwork plant and new skills.
By producing 3-ply shuttering panels, Pfeifer invests early in modern wood processing technology. Innovation becomes a defining element of the company’s development.
1996
Pellet production starts in Kundl.
Pfeifer is one of the first companies in Austria to produce wood pellets industrially. Production residues become a source of renewable energy.
2005
Acquisition of the Heggenstaller Group in Germany.
Expansion strengthens the industrial base. With the acquisition of the Heggenstaller Group in Germany, Pfeifer expands its production structure. This step marks the transition to an international timber-industry company.
2009
The Lauterbach site becomes one of the most modern production sites in Europe.
With one of the largest single investments in the company’s history, Pfeifer builds one of Europe’s most modern production sites in Lauterbach, Germany. This step strengthens its position in the European timber industry.
2016
Acquisition of the Holzindustrie Chanovice plant.
By purchasing the long-established Czech company, Pfeifer expands its production base in Central Europe. The site develops into an important pillar of the European value chain.
2019
Cross laminated timber production starts in Schlitz.
With cross laminated timber (CLT), Pfeifer adds a key material for modern timber construction to its portfolio. Large-format solid wood enables stable structures and multi-storey buildings made of wood. The investment strengthens Pfeifer’s position in European timber construction.
2023
Stronger presence in Northern Europe through the integration of Finnish timber industry company PÖLKKY.
Extensive investment in the Finnish sites supports long-term access to high-quality logs and expands industrial expertise.
